Bellow you can find information regarding submission of your manuscript to the Hellenic Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics:
Instructions for authors
Aim of the “Hellenic Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics” is to provide scientific information on issues regarding Nutrition and Health for Dieticians, Physicians, Epidemiologists and many other scientists studying the science of food, nutrition, and dietetics. Before acceptance for publication in the Journal, all manuscripts will be sent for peer review. Article categories: - Original articles (should not exceed 3500 words, 35 references maximum, regarding original research studies on contemporary nutrition topics)
- Short communications (short critical articles which should not exceed 1500 words, 15 references maximum, presenting novel hypotheses or preliminary results)
- Reviews (should not exceed 4500 words, 70 references maximum focusing on recent developments in the field of nutrition)
- Editorials (upon invitation)
- Letters to the Editor (should not exceed 500 words, 10 references maximum, referencing data recently published in the Journal or emphasizing on novel developments in the field of nutrition)
Language of submission is Greek or English. Use double space, 2,5 cm margins and preferable word processing software MS Word for Windows 2003. ORIGINAL ARTICLES / SHORT COMMUNICATIONS:
Each article should be structured as follows: - Title page (Title, authors’ names, affiliations, full name and complete postal address of the corresponding author)
- Abstract (Greek and English)
- Text
- Introduction
- Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Acknowledgments / Conflict of interest
- References
- Tables
- Figures
The words Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References should be written in lower case letters, 12 point size and bold. - Title page
- Title: in capital and bold letters, center alignment and 16 point size.
- Names of all authors: (First name, Last name) center alignment, after the Title in 14 point size, bold.
- Name of the research centers and institutions of the authors in 12 point size. Present which authors are associated with which institutions with numerical indications 1,2 etc.
- Corresponding author contact information: name, postal address, telephone and fax numbers and email address.
- Second page
- Abstract, structured in one page under the following headings: Aims, Methods, Results and Conclusions. The abstract should not exceed 250 words.
- Key words: please provide up to 5 words.
- Third page
- Main text
- Main text should be written in Times New Roman, 12 point size. Main text should be structured in the following sections bold, 12 point size, lower case letters: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion. If sub-sections under the main sections are necessary, they should be written in italics.
- Please live a singe space after punctuation marks. Include page numbers in the bottom right corner of the page and continuous line numbers in the left margin. Preparation of the manuscript should follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (i.e., Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, N Engl J Med 1991; 324:424-428).
- Acknowledgements / Conflict of interest
- Acknowledgements should be addressed only for investigators with significant contribution to the study.
- Authors should declare whether or not there are any competing financial or other interests in relation to the work described.
- References
- References should follow the Vancouver style, all authors names should be mentioned, while in the text they should be presented numerically according to their order of appearance in exponential form. References should be presented in a new page after the Acknowledgements section.
- Tables, Figures
- Authors are encouraged to use the word processing software for the creation of Tables. Each table should be presented in a separate page, be self-explanatory with a title and legend (under the table) of the data presented. Data presented in tables should not be repeated in the text. Please avoid to use vertical lines to separate columns. Indicate the place of the tables and figures in the Main text. Tables and Figures should be presented after the References section.
REVIEWS:Every article should be divided in the following sections: - First page (Title, authors’ names, affiliations, full name and complete postal address of the corresponding author)

- The number of articles studied, the bibliographic databases that have been searched, as well as the time period in which the articles included in the review were published, should be mentioned.
- Acknowledgments/ Conflict of interest, References (like Original Articles)
- Tables, Figures (like Original Articles)
- It would be preferable if the information discussed in the reviews would also be depicted in table/s in order to be presented in a more homogeneous and organized form.

The Hellenic
Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics is committed to maintain the
highest ethical standards. Therefore, it is mandatory to agree upon standards
of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of
publishing: the journal editor, the reviewer, the author and the publisher,
is necessary.

For editors:

The editors of the journal are responsible for the
evaluation of the submitted manuscripts and the making a fair decision of
which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published.
·
The editors may be guided by the policies of the
journal's editorial board and constrained by the legal requirements in force
including libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism.
·
Confidentiality of the submitted works until they
are published must be ensured by the editors, except in the case of suspicion
of double submission.
·
In case the editors decide not to publish a
material, the manuscript should not be used for other purposes without the express
written consent of the author.
·
Information about a submitted manuscript should be
disclosed only to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers,
other editorial advisers, and the publisher, and no other party. Unpublished
materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's
own research without the express written consent of the author.

For reviewers:

The role of the reviewers of the journal is to contribute
to the Editorial Decision of publishing a submitted manuscript.
·
The reviewers must treat the manuscript received for
peer reviewing with objectivity and confidentiality. Reviewers must not use any
information obtained through peer review for personal advantage, show or
discuss the manuscripts' contents with others.
·
The reviewers should not agree to review manuscripts
in cases conflict of interest exists, resulting from competitive,
collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors,
companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

For authors:

Submission of an article to the Hellenic Journal of Nutrition and
Dietetics implies that the work described is not under
consideration for publication elsewhere, publication of the article is
approved by all authors and if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere
by the authors, including electronically in the same form, in Greek, English
or in any other language, without the written consent of the
copyright-holder.

Original research articles should
present an accurate description of the work performed and an objective
presentation of the findings. The manuscript
should include sufficient detail and references in order to permit others to
replicate the work. Knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical
behavior. Review articles should be accurate and objective, as well; editorial
"opinion" works should be identified as such.

Authorship should be limited to those who have made
a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or
interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions
should be listed as co-authors. In case other individuals have participated
in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be
acknowledged or listed as contributors.
·
The authors should make sure that their manuscripts
are entirely original. In case they have used the work and/or words of
others, they should ensure that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms
constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
·
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must
always be given, through citation of publications that have been influential
in determining the nature of the reported work.
·
Studies on humans (patients or volunteers) that are submitted to the Hellenic Journal
of Nutrition and Dietetics should comply
with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki; Recommendations guiding
physicians in biomedical research involving human subjects. Adopted by the
18th World Medical Assembly, Helsinki, Finland, June 1964, amended by the
29th World Medical Assembly, Tokyo, Japan, October 1975, the 35th World
Medical Assembly, Venice, Italy, October 1983, and the 41st World Medical
Assembly, Hong Kong, September 1989. The manuscript should include a statement
that the work has been approved by the appropriate ethical committees related
to the institution(s) in which it was performed and that subjects gave
informed consent to the work. Patients' and volunteers' names, initials, and
hospital numbers should not be included in the manuscript. Studies involving
experiments with animals must state that their care was in accordance with
institution guidelines.

The authors must disclose any actual or potential
conflict of interest including any financial, personal or other relationships
with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence
(bias) their work.
·
All sources of financial support for the conduct of
the research and/or preparation of the article should be disclosed in the
manuscript. The role of the sponsor(s), if any, should be briefly described
(i.e., in study design; in the collection, analysis and interpretation of
data; in the writing of the report; and in the decision to submit the article
for publication).
·
If an author discovers a significant error or
inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it his/hers responsibility to
promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor
to retract or correct the paper.
